On Thursday, May 07, 2009 I took my dog sandy (please note I kept him on the leash), and we hiked an easy trail the Maxine Lakin Nature Trail in the North Phoenix Mountain Preserve.  This trail is off Mountain View Park near the end of 7th Ave.  From Dunlap, or Hatcher to 7th Ave and turn north.  Follow 7th around to the right and then left to Mountain View Park.  Park at the north end of the park.  Facilities are available in the park.  This is also the western end of Trail 100.

This hike is not very long and quite easy.  I would not recommend it for anyone with balance problems but for most people it would not present a challenge.  The trail is wide and well marked but the trail marker posts are not in very good repair.  In my opinion the most impressive sights on this hike are two mine adits (entrances), one horizontal and one a shaft which could be dangerous should you lose your footing.  The trail is a sufficient distance from the shaft that you can avoid any danger.

The views are wonderful and this would make a great beginners trail.  Not to difficult, but not boring also.
